Myopia is the most common ocular disorder. Its global incidence is increasing rapidly, particularly among youth. Around half of the young adults in the US and Europe are short-sighted and the numbers are rising.
The underlying defect is a slightly elongated eyeball. In severe cases, it can lead to serious consequences including retinal detachment, cataracts, glaucoma, and even blindness.
