The Department of Ophthalmology at Aarhus University Hospital has, for many years, been the leading centre in Denmark for treatment of corneal diseases and corneal transplantation and also hosts the only cornea bank in the country. The department have participated in several EU-funded studies on clinical outcomes in corneal transplantation, immunological profiling of cornea transplant patients and corneal regenerative approaches. Aarhus University Hospital is closely collaborating with Aarhus University to generate research results. A high number of faculties and PhD-students, employed by the university, are working at the hospital. Being part of a university hospital, all departments, centres, institutes etc. are committed to integrate research in their clinical work. Corneal refractive surgery has been an important clinical activity at the department since the 1980ties and has formed the basis for several clinical and animal based scientific studies and PhD projects on various aspects of PRK and LASIK. Moreover, the department has been strongly involved in laboratory and clinical studies on small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) procedures with emphasis on optics and quality of vision.
AUH will manage the demonstration activities and lead the clinical validation of the VEMoS software in coordination with the rest of the clinics implicated in the clinical trial.
